CITES RHINOCEROS ENFORCEMENT TASK FORCE MEETING

BACKGROUND
The CITES Rhinoceros Enforcement Task Force Meeting is convened by the CITES Secretariat in collaboration with the Government of South Africa, represented by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment as the host of the CITES Management Authority of South Africa. The meeting is convened in accordance with Decision 19.120, paragraph a), on Rhinoceroses (Rhinocerotidae spp.) adopted by the Conference of the Parties to CITES at its 19th meeting (CoP19, Panama City, November 2022).
STAKEHOLDERS
The Task Force Meeting is bringing together representatives from rhinoceros range States, Parties most affected by rhinoceros poaching and illegal trade in rhinoceros’ specimens, other Parties as appropriate, the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC), relevant experts and non-governmental organizations. These stakeholders will meet over a period of a week to develop strategies to further strengthen responses to address rhinoceros poaching and rhinoceros specimen trafficking.
