Call for nominations to appoint members of a New Prince Edward Islands Special Nature Reserve Advisory Committee (PEIAC)

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is calling for the submission of nominations to appoint members for the new Prince Edward Islands Special Nature Reserve Advisory Committee (PEIAC) for the period 2024 to 2026. DFFE is the management authority for the Prince Edward Islands Special Nature Reserve which is governed by the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003, (Act No. 57 of 2003) together with the Regulations for the Proper Management of Special Nature Reserves, National Parks and World Heritage Sites (published under Government Notice R1061 in Government Gazette 28181 of 28 October 2005) (regulations).

According to regulation 50 of the regulations, DFFE may establish an advisory committee to advise on aspects of the management and conservation of the Prince Edward Islands Special Nature Reserve.


Criteria to be met

Nominees must fulfil the following criteria:

Appropriately qualified individuals with extensive knowledge and working experience in one or more of the following fields of research and management: biological sciences (botany, geology and zoology), marine science (e.g. biophysical, oceanography and fisheries), alien or invasive species management (especially small mammals and invasive plants), oil pollution management, climate change, earth systems, conservation sciences and/or management, protected areas management (terrestrial and MPAs) and environmental legal and/or environmental policy expertise.


Submission of applications

Applicants need to submit written motivations and a comprehensive curriculum vitae with certified copies of all relevant qualifications accompany by the fully completed and signed nomination form for the PEIAC members.
