Nomination for SAFCOL board members
Invitation for the nomination of suitable persons to be appointed as members to serve on the South African Forestry Company (SAFCOL) Ltd Board
The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr Dion George, hereby invites members of the public to nominate suitable persons to be appointed as members to serve on the South African Forestry Company Ltd Board.
The mandate of the South African Forestry Company (SOC) Ltd is to conduct forestry business which includes timber harvesting, timber processing and related activities, both domestically and internationally.
The members of the South African Forestry Company Ltd Board shall consist of:
- The chief executive officer by virtue of his/her position;
- The chief financial officer by virtue of his/her position;
- no fewer than six and no more than twelve (12) other persons, the majority of which shall be directors that are not employed by the company and appointed by the minister.
Members of the public are invited to submit to the minister, written nominations of suitable persons to be appointed as members to serve on the South African Forestry Company (SOC) Ltd Board. A nomination of a suitable person must include a curriculum vitae of the nominee which sets out the following:
- Personal details including full names, surname, race, gender and disability of the nominee;
- Postal and residential address, and contact number(s) of the nominee;
- Certified copies of all academic qualifications and other relevant documentation;
- Particulars of the nominee’s experience and areas of expertise;
- Current and previous service on boards; and
- Names and contact details of at least two referees.
The members of the Board shall be appointed on the grounds of their knowledge and experience, which when considered collectively shall enable the Board to attain the objectives of SAFCOL. Nominated candidates must have suitable skills and experience in any of the following fields: commercial and forestry industry, business, climate change and sustainability; corporate governance; legal and regulatory compliance; marketing and stakeholder management; mergers and acquisitions; finance and investment management; project management; human resource management and strategic leadership and management.
The members of the board will be appointed in their personal capacities for a period of three years, effective from 1 April 2025 until 31 March 2028, renewable for a further term.
Confirmation of the availability of the nominee is also required. Preference will be given to candidates whose appointments will enhance representativity.
