DEA's research vessels returns from Marion Island
15 May 2015 - The Department of Environmental Affairs welcomed its research vessel the SA Agulhas II from her 3rd Marion Island relief Voyage early this morning, 15 May 2015, at the East Pier Quay in Cape Town. Some of the activities that the M71 team members who participated in the voyage did included, collecting diet and blood samples from mammals and birds as well as soil and plant samples through the different seasons in the year.

14 May 2015 - The Department of Environmental Affairs’ SA Agulhas II will be returning from her logistical/scientific voyage from Marion Island on Friday 15 May 2015. Aboard the ship will be a host of researchers and participants from the Department of Environmental Affairs, Department of Public Works, the South African Weather Service and various tertiary institutions.

09 April 2015 - The Department of Environmental Affairs’ SA Agulhas II will today, Thursday 09 April 2015, embark on her third logistical and scientific voyage to Marion Island. Aboard the ship is a host of researchers and participants from Department of Environmental Affairs, Department of Public Works, the South African Weather Service and various tertiary institutions. The Marion 72 expedition team will be the fourth of its kind to inhabit the new base since its commission in March 2011 and will occupy it for a period of 14 months.

SA Agulhas II returns from Antartica
16 Feb 2015 - The Department of Environmental Affairs will once again welcome back the SA Agulhas II as she returns from her almost 3 months annual voyage from Antarctica on Tuesday, 17 February 2015 at the East Pier Shed, Cape Town. Aboard the vessel will be the Sanae 53 expedition team, DEA’s supporting team, members from the National Department of Public Works, Starlite Aviation, and the Scientists who left for Antarctica last year on 28 November 2013 and have spent 14 months at the base conducting critical research.
