Minister George to brief the media on Eskom’s Application for exemption from minimum Emission Standards in terms of the Air Quality Act

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr Dion George, will brief the media on the applications submitted by Eskom in terms of Section 59 of the National Environmental Management Air Quality Act (NEMAQA) for exemption from the minimum emission standards for eight (8) of its coal-fired power stations.
Eskom applied for exemption from the minimum exemption standards in terms of section 59 of the NEMAQA in respect of 8 Eskom facilities, namely, Lethabo, Kendal, Tutuka, Matla, Duvha, Majuba, Matimba and Medupi. Dr George was expected to consider the merits of each application based on the reasons for the application and the information provided in support of each facility. The Minister will now brief the media on the outcome of these applications.
