Output 2.4 of the UNDP/GEF6 Project, implemented by DFFE, aims to strengthen ABS implementation in Rooibos farming, ensuring fairness, equity and sustainability in relevant relationships among TK holders and industry. This will be done through three key activities:

Activity 1 will investigate and develop a suitable TK benefit sharing mechanism that effectively captures the resource rent resulting from the Traditional Knowledge (TK) rights.

Activity 2 will compliment the previous activity by investigating and developing a non-monetary TK benefit sharing mechanism which will support rights-holding communities through contributions-in-kind and related mechanisms by the private sector.

Activity 3 will develop and propose a suitable and simple governance and institutionalisation framework for implementing and monitoring the TK benefit sharing mechanism.
