Request for expression of interest (EOI) on the development of national climate change adaptation objectives

The National Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) as a leading entity on development of policy and legislative framework on climate change, has been on a journey through various support structures to develop a programme of work for climate change in South Africa. The country has seen great progress in this sector, from the development of the National Climate Change Response Policy (VCCRP), the National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (NCCAS), and most recently the National Climate Change Bill.

In advancing the implementation of the National Determined Contributions (NDC), which is to reduce risk and vulnerability to climate change, strengthen resilience, enhance well-being and the capacity to anticipate, and respond successfully to change, the government is required to develop a set of instruments. One of those instruments is to develop national adaptation objectives which will guide the Country's adaptation pathway approach/planning in addressing the uncertainty and challenges of climate change impacts. The composite adaptation objectives will guide all key stakeholders in the country to ensure that they make proportional contribution towards overall attainment of the national adaptation agenda.

The department invites experts, practitioners, and wider stakeholders with an understanding of climate change adaptation, general societal development challenges, climate change governance and sustainable development goals to submit proposals/inputs for expression of interest (EOI) in the development of climate change adaptation objectives for South Africa. Furthermore, the department will solicit the proposals/inputs submitted in the EOI's to develop climate change adaptation objectives for the country. The EOI's should outline the methodological approach to the development of the objectives as well as the thematic areas to be covered by the national adaptation objectives.
