Robben Island was inscribed on the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List in 1999 and further declared as a World Heritage Site in terms of the Act in 2007

As part of the robben_island‘s project to increase the number of indigenous trees on the island, Deputy Minister Sotyu and Tshwete plant a wild olive tree which also symbolizes peace.
