Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries to lead World Environment Day in Pretoria

The newly-appointed Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries Ms Barbara Creecy will lead community clean-up activities to mark World Environment Day in Mamelodi East, Pretoria, on Wednesday 5 June 2019.

The celebration of World Environment Day began in 1972 and has grown to become one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.

The community clean-up is aimed at raising awareness about waste management and the significance of a clean and safe environment to the health of all South Africans.

The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Maggie Sotyu and Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment Dr Kgosientsho Sputla Ramokgopa will join the Minister during the clean-up activities as guided by the Good Green Deeds Programme that was launched by the President in March 2019.
