Nomination of suitable persons to be considered for appointment to the Board of iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority
I, Dion Travers George (Dr), Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, hereby invite members of the public to nominate suitable persons to be considered for appointment to the Board of the South African National Biodiversity Institute in terms of section 59 of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003 (Act No. 57 of 2003).
A written nomination of a suitable person must include a curriculum vitae of the nominee, which sets out the following:
- personal details of the nominee;
- particulars of the nominee's qualifications and areas of expertise;
- postal and residential address and contact number(s) of the nominee;
- copies of all academic qualifications and other relevant documentation;
- current and previous service on boards; and
- names and contact details of at least two referees.
The members of the board shall be appointed on the grounds of their knowledge and experience, which, when considered collectively, shall enable the board to attain the objectives of iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority. Nominated candidates must have suitable experience or expertise in any of the following fields: biodiversity management; conservation; protected areas management; tourism development; stakeholder management; corporate governance; strategic leadership and management; community development; marketing; legal and regulatory compliance; environmental law; audit and risk; financial management (chartered accountant); information and communication technology; and human resource management.
The nominated candidates may represent one or more of the following sectors, as required by the act: national and provincial government departments; national and international cultural or nature conservation authorities, including bodies and organisations; communities directly affected by or adjacent to the world heritage site; heritage bodies; organised business; affected adjacent tribal authorities; scientific or academic expert bodies; local authorities and private landowners in the vicinity of iSimangaliso.
The members of the board will be appointed in their personal capacities and must broadly represent South African society. Members will serve for a period of three years, effective from 1 April 2026 until 31 March 2029.
Confirmation of the availability of the nominee is also required. Preference will be given to candidates whose appointments will enhance representativity.

Written nominations must be submitted together with a completed nomination form within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice in the Government Gazette or in the newspapers, whichever date is the last.
