Minister George to lead launch of new Extrupet Plastic Recycling Plant in Cape Town

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr Dion George, will lead the official launch of the new Extrupet food-grade PET plastic recycling plant in Cape Town on Monday, 6 October 2025. Hosted by Extrupet, Propet and Petco, in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), this launch marks a significant milestone in the journey towards a sustainable future through the development of a circular economy.

This R200-million investment will boost Extrupet’s Food Grade rPET capacity by an additional 15 000 tonnes per year, helping to recycle even more of South Africa’s PET plastic packaging.
