21 March 2023 - South Africa welcomes the release of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s Summary for Policy Makers and a longer synthesis report of the Sixth Assessment Cycle.“The report, released yesterday, brings together the work of leading global scientists over the past six years and clearly shows that more than a century of burning fossil fuels and unsustainable energy and land use worldwide, but in particular in developed countries, has led to global warming of 1.1°C since the start of the industrial revolution,” says the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy.

16 March 2023 - The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has announced the final list of declared small-scale fishers in the Western Cape. The list was compiled in terms of the Marine Living Resources Act’s regulations related to small-scale fishing in South Africa, and followed the Western Cape High Court judgment in favour of the department and the minister that set aside the initial process of declaring small-scale fishers in the province. The initial process had happened in 2016.

15 March 2023 - Minister Barbara Creecy announced that Eskom has been granted an exemption from the lengthy process required to amend its atmospheric emission license, subject to certain strict conditions. The exemption in terms of section 59 of NEMAQA was granted on 14 March 2023 in response to an application the minister had received in relation to the Kusile Power Station.
